Why Do Life Coaches Need Liability Insurance?
Life coaches work closely with clients as they set goals, navigate transitions, build new habits, and make meaningful changes in their personal or professional lives. Even when you coach thoughtfully and follow accepted practices, misunderstandings, disagreements, accidents, or claims about your professional guidance can still happen.
Liability insurance helps protect your coaching business when a client claims your services caused them harm or loss, or when an accident or property damage occurs in connection with your business.
Your Coaching May Involve Risks Such As:
What Life Coaching Typically Involves
Life coaching focuses on helping individuals create clarity, set goals, and take meaningful action through structured conversations, accountability, and personal development support.
Life coaching often includes:
- One-on-one or group coaching sessions
- Goal setting, planning, and accountability
- Values clarification and decision-making support
- Personal growth and mindset development
- Tools, exercises, and reflective practices
- Ongoing communication to support client progress
Because life coaching often involves personal decisions, habits, and life changes, it carries a level of professional responsibility. Life coaching does not include diagnosing, treating, or providing medical or mental health care.

Practical Protection
Examples of Claims Life Coaches May Encounter
Life coach insurance is designed to help protect you when a client, participant, venue, or organization raises a claim related to your covered coaching work. These examples illustrate potential situations life coaches may encounter while providing individual coaching, group programs, workshops, or other covered services. Claim coverage is determined on a case-by-case basis.
A client claims your coaching guidance, recommendations, or professional services caused financial, professional, or personal harm.
A participant slips, trips, or is injured during an in-person workshop, group coaching session, or coaching event.
Furniture, equipment, or other property belonging to a client, venue, or organization is accidentally damaged during your coaching activities.
A client alleges that your advice or guidance went beyond the expected scope of the coaching relationship and resulted in harm or loss.
A client disputes the outcome of a coaching package, group program, workshop, or personal development service and makes a claim against you.
A claim arising from your covered coaching services requires investigation, documentation, legal defense, or resolution through your insurance coverage.
